Course: Lake Youngs Urban Trail, Renton, Washington, USA

The Lake Youngs trail can best be described as and urban 
trail. The trail surrounds the Lake Youngs reservoir and is 
used by runners, walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders. 
It's sits in the middle of several housing developments and 
is used extensively by those in the surrounding
neighborhoods.

The distance is 9.5 miles around, so we ran around the 
trail 3 times with a small out and back at the beginning. 
This allowed us to have other runners join in who were not 
ready to run the 50K distance, but who wanted to get a
couple of loops in for their weekly long runs. Also, it 
allowed us to have our aid station and drop bags 
(a.k.a., our vehicles) convenient and accessible to us 
on 3 occasions.

The weather was actually rather nice before the race. 
The sky was clear enough to see the bright, nearly full 
moon and some scattered stars. It had snowed the day and 
night before but the accumulation was almost nil in the
morning. The temperatures were between 30 and 35 degrees F 
for most of the run.

Half way through the first loop, it began to lightly snow; 
and by the end of the loop, we could see some accumulation 
on the trail. The trail became a beautiful carpet of soft 
snow which provided a nice cushioning for us. Having the 
"white carpet treatment," our next loop was quite pleasant.
The squeaky footing felt great on the legs and soon we saw 
plenty of kids out enjoying nearby hills on their sleds. 

During the last loop, the snow stopped and it began to warm. 
The warmth was welcomed at first, but brought on a
slushy muddy mess by the end of the run.

All in all, a wonderful run with friends followed by food 
and conversation and my home not too far from the trail. 
This was the 2nd annual Lake Youngs version of the 
Yours Truly event. We are sure to continue to have this event
as long as people are willing to come.
